Valve's Gabe Newell at DICE: Patches, Steam sales and Team Fortress 2 comics

The annual DICE Summit is now underway in Las Vegas with Valve's co-founder Gabe Newell giving the high-end game conference's keynote address. Gamespot covered the event and had some highlights from Newell's speech. Newell sees their games like Team Fortress 2 and more recently Left 4 Dead as more than stand alone products but as services and that constant updates help improve service and sales for those games. Newell said they have offered a whopping 63 patches and content updates for Team Fortress 2 since the original version was shipped. (In fact a new update for the game to fix an exploit was released just last night)

Last week DC Comics' Wildstorm division officially revealed their plans for a StarCraft comic book series during the New York Comic Con. This week the official Wildstorm web site has revealed the first issue of the series will be released this June.


Impressions: Puzzle Quest: Galactrix

Galactrix takes the Puzzle Quest experience to the final frontier by launching players into deep space. The heart of the what made the first game, Challenge of Warlords, so enjoyable remains the same. Galactrix still combines elements from a role-playing game with the interaction of a gem matching minigame, complete with a variety of puzzles to keep players engaged. We had a chance to try out Galactrix and match our wits against the galaxy.


Major update for Audiosurf released

If you are a fan of the great racing-music game Audiosurf (and if you are not, then you need to be) you've got a major new update to download via Steam tonight. The update is more than just a bug fix patch; a number of new features have been added to the popular game.


Joystiq checks out DC Universe Online

The New York Comic Con begins on Friday and despite its title there will be a lot of video and PC games on display. There will also be many game-oriented panels at the convention. One of the games on the show floor will be DC Universe Online, the upcoming Sony Online developed MMO that will put players smack dab in the middle of the long time four color super hero setting.
